As he also worked as the staff veterinarian at the Tidewater Emergency Clinic situated in Newport News, Virginia, he has gained expertise in all the areas pertaining to veterinary treatments. During his tenureship at this emergency practice, he gained immense experience in critical care and emergency medicine and surgery.

After serving this practice as a staff veterinarian for years, he became the owner and manager of the Burke Veterinary Clinic in May 1986.
